...and I love it.
This may quite possibly be the most useless entry yet on this blog space, but I had to share this.
Have I mentioned that getting an iPod for Christmas has revolutionized my life? Well it did. Obviously, I've not put any songs on it that I actually dislike per se, but sometimes when set to shuffle the songs, it just gets on an amazing roll, playing song after song that is perfect. This morning on my walk was one of those times -- it was like it was an extension of my own person. I had a tip-top morning, thanks in large part to this set:
Beatles: It's Only Love
The Redwalls: Thank You
Keb' Mo': Hand It Over
Green Day: Holiday
Keb' Mo' part two: Perpetual Blues Machine
Kings of Leon: Molly's Chambers
U2: Red Hill Mining Town
Coldplay: Green Eyes
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Dani California
Guster: C'mon
The 77s: Phony Eyes
The Police: King of Pain
Kings of Leon: Red Morning Light
Aretha Franklin: Do Right Woman, Do Right Man
OK, I'll stop wasting your time now.

P.S. Thanks not only to my beloved iPod, but also to The Wife, giver of the iPod and best gift-giver ever.

Stuart is coming to visit Saturday for a week or so from Madrid. Since I've not seen him in a couple of years, it is appropriate that he be froasted before he gets here. Here are some tidbits that you may find interesting about Stu:
-- Stu has a special talent for closing his eyes at the precise instant he is photographed. Out of several dozen photos I must have of him, in only one (below) does he appear awake. Fortunately I found another one where he's got sunglasses on, but I guarantee that his eyes are closed under there.
-- Scott enjoys hearing Stu say any word ending with -ort, and I have to say that I agree. 'The courts for the sports were sort of imported via the port at Fort Lauderdale.'
-- Stu has a tendency to over-celebrate special occasions like World Cup match victories and parties for faked resignations, resulting in unplanned 'naps' in locales such as parking lots and trains.
-- Stu is a wily one. The faked resignation was solely to get a leaving gift (a DVD player) off of us colleagues, only for him to return a month later claiming that 'the other job didn't work out'.
-- Stu's always has the light blue kind of Extra and is happy to let me have *two* pieces.
-- Like me, Stu married up big time, the lucky bastard.
-- Stu is the father of a lovely baby girl named Marina, whose arrival not only made him a proud papa but also also effectively put to rest the last smoldering embers of the whole gay misconception.
-- Stu is one sexy bitch: again refer to the photographic evidence below.
-- Stu is a big fan of Radiohead.
-- Although he can be cheeky and disrespectful, and sometimes touches me in inappropriate ways, Stu is a tremendous friend, husband and father, and a man of integrity. (Inappropriate touching notwithstanding.)

What horrible news from our neighboring state of Virginia today -- they are calling it the worst shooting in U.S. history. I guess when they say that they aren't counting Wounded Knee, Fort Dearborn and Fort Pillow, to say nothing of the Civil War. Anyway, I've been following it on TV most of the evening and my heart goes out to those affected.
You know what the main point of the news is so far, at least according to CNN? They want to blame the school and/or the campus police for allowing the second (and main) spree to occur, considering what had transpired two hours earlier in a residence hall. Paula Zahn (moran) is interviewing students, trying to get them to admit that at least some blame should be placed on the authorities. Larry King (moran) has Dr. Phil on (uber-moran), together rambling on about countless unknowns and casting random assertions. Why can't the press just report the facts and maybe offer condolences to the grieving bereaved? It's too early for stoking up fires to make new laws, sue the VT staff, and vilify non-white people.
A sad day indeed.

My weekend kicked ass. Started it off with a couple of Guinnesses (Guinni?) with work friends on Friday night. The Wife got home after being away for a couple of days for work. I was still exulting after actually finishing a whole book recently. (Thanks to Angela for the recommendation: 'Restless' by William Boyd.) And I listened to and played a raft of music. We're currently plowing through our entire inventory of CDs and listening to every song on every disc, just to remind ourselves of the hidden gems that usually don't get pulled off the shelves. Pleasant finds this weekend included Tom Waits, Joplin, Rush, Neil Young, and Jacko's 'Thriller' -- took me right back to 1983.
Also bought two new ones that I have high hopes for: the new offerings by the Kings of Leon and Bright Eyes. Can't wait to get into the new albums more. Check them out, and also check out Bright Eyes at the Ryman on May 19, and KoL at Bonnaroo in June.

Man Charged in Theft of 66 Colonoscopes
So when I saw this one, I had a few mixed reactions.
First I was just amused -- the headline was entertaining enough on its own. But why did this fellow limit himself to just colonoscopes? Besides narrowing his potential market, wouldn't they be a bit more unwieldy than, say, some syringes, eye drops, or even suppositories?
But then I found the answer to that one: these bad boys cost about $21,000 each, which of course led to my next revelation. I am in the wrong business; software is so 90s -- I need to get into ass-tools.

(Cash... get it?)
Sadly, Johnny Cash's house has burned and/or is still burning in Hendersonville. My sadness over this was quickly replaced by infuriation at the Tennessean. Refer to my previously posted 10 Things I Hate about the Tennessean, and then read this kindergarten level piece of crap: Cash Home Burns

In case you didn't know about it already, there was a huge apartment complex fire the other day in Nashville, leaving ~800 people displaced for the Easter weekend. If you feel so compelled and are able, I'd suggest showing a little financial support for the people who lost their homes. Remember, many employers (e.g. Aspect) will match donations to charitable organizations like the Red Cross and so forth.
