McDonald's Big Breakfast

On my way to work I pass a drive-thru McDonald's. I am not a regular McDonald's visitor but I do very much like their Big Breakfast.

The first time I had a Big Breakfast was in Florida. My Dad and I were on standby for a flight coming back from Miami to Heathrow, I would have been about 12. When there was no room on the flight we would have to stay over in a local motel and go back to the airport the next day and queue up and hope to get on. So we were in a local motel where we would lounge and swim all day until it was airport time and the motel we were in had a free shuttle bus to a local shopping mall with a McDonalds. My Dad and I took the bus and mooched and had a Big Breakfast so I guess the morning McDonald's brings back some nice memories.

The other morning after going to the dentist, I wasn't due at work for another hour, so I went to McDonald's there too. I actually sat in the restaurant. They had flowers on the table. I spent 10 minutes eating hash brown and that weird spicy sausage burger thing. Lovely.

The Mcdonald's on my way to work is about 15 minutes from my office. Assuming there is no traffic. So if there is no traffic I can get a Mcdonald's breakfast and get to work and it will still be warm. Thing is to get to the McDonald's I need to be in the left hand lane at the roundabout, but my lane in the right lane. So at some point I need to decide if there is too much traffic - meaning cold McDo. If traffic is nil then I need to make my way to the left lane. Then I need to decide if I really want a faceful of salt and fat or if I should have All Bran and toast at work. These are the difficult decisions I face.

I need to go and get some breakfast now.

Driving dangerously

Opinion an abrahamlove.com. Is this a first?

When did we become a nation of law breaking drivers? There are three things which have struck me recently, these climaxed last night in a fiesta of awful and illegal driving that I witnessed on my way home.

1) Going through red lights. I'm not talking about sneaking through an amber. I'm talking about drving through a red light two or three cars after the lights have changed. I'm talking about being overtaken (at standing) by a car who then drives through a red light.

2) Driving against the traffic on the wrong side of the road. I'm not talking about emergency driving in a gridlock situation. This is just a day to day traffic jam. Someone either wants to turn right or sit in the turn right lane then push into the straight ahead lane so they jump into the wrong lane of the road and drive to the front. Not just a few yards but a couple of hundred yards. Drving at cars coming towards them - then wondering why they are being bibbed.

3) An extension of the above. Last night not 1. Not 2, 3, 4 but 5. Five cars jumped the queue of traffic into the oncoming traffic lane driving the *wrong side* of an island in the middle of the road.

These things are not happening in the middle of the night when there is no traffic or less cars or no pedestrians. I'm not in the middle of the countryside. This is in built up areas where mums and children and old ladies are crossing and people are minding their business driving home from work. These aren't one off incidents but regular sights on the way home. Not just maniac drivers, but more and more average Joes who seem to think it's OK to do this sort of thing. There will always be idiots who think the rules don't apply, but what concerns me is the spread of idiot disease to normal folk.

Make it stop.

It's been explained to me before just how much the Spanish prize their Hams. So much so - as the story goes - that a vegetarian went into a restaurant and was served a plate of delicious Jamon. 'I can't eat this meat!', they squealed. 'Is not meat. Is Ham!', said the waiter.

So I was less surprised when Ex-Pat and would be Spaniard Stu forwarded me a mail he received, explaining how he could get a free Iberian Ham worth €450 if he would just buy a fancy new server.

Read about the ham deal here!

Ai! Ai! Ai! El Jamon de mi madre es si bueno que el servidor del Primergy!!!!!!
